SOUTH WEST WALES INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY

AN INVITATION TO MEMBERSHIP

The South West Wales Industrial Archaeology Society extends a warm welcome to all those who are interested in the history and remains of industry and transport, especially in the area around Swansea,(foremerly West Glamorgan)but also including Llanelli, Neath, Port Talbot and their respective valleys and west Wales.

This is, of course, an area which is rich in industrial remains. Despite recent clearance measures, there are still many interesting remains to be seen which are connected with the metallurgical industries, coal mining, railways and canals.

Our Society arranges monthly lecture meetings during the winter which are usually held at a venue in Swansea. In the summer visits are arranged to sites both within our region and beyond it. Members also receive an informative Newsletter which is published three times a year.

Past highlights in the life of the Society include the restoration of an early nineteenth-century engine-house at Scott's Pit, Llansamlet, which took place between 1976 and 1980. In 1988 we acted as hosts to the prestigious annual conference of the Association for Industrial Archaeology, an event which was accompanied by the publication of A Guide to the Industrial Archaeology of the Swansea Region. The Society has also collaborated with Swansea City Council in the production of a number of trails and leaflets. Most of these publications are still available.

The annual subscription (as fixed by the 2007 A.G.M.) is 8.00 (standard rate); 10.00 (family rate - at the same address).

If you would like to join the Society, please print out and send the slip below to the Hon. Treasurer, bring it to a meeting, or just give it to another member who will ensure that it reaches the right person.
